From landfills to WtE: a Polish plant’s success story
In just ten years, the Waste-to-Energy plant in Bialystok has reduced dependency from landfills from 90% to 12%.
After starting its operations in 2015, the Polish plant has drastically cut down the amount of biodegradable waste destined to be buried underground, in compliance with the EU Landfill Directive mandate.
The Bialystok plant processes 120,000 tonnes of waste per year and produces electricity for the local grid as well as thermal energy for Bialystok’s district heating system.
Behind this success story is ESWET member Keppel Seghers‘ innovative technology, featuring a vertical boiler, a conditioned dry flue gas treatment system, and an air-cooled SIGMATRIX combustion grate. Click here to learn more.
