EVENT: Waste and Emissions Trading 26 March 2026, Brussels
SAVE THE DATE: 26 March 2026 – Brussels
As the EU moves forward with its climate and circular economy ambitions, the inclusion of Waste-to-Energy (WtE) in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) raises crucial questions about coherence, feasibility, and environmental effectiveness.
On 26 March 2026, ESWET and CEWEP will host a high-level stakeholder event in Brussels to explore how decarbonisation objectives can be aligned with sustainable waste management and energy recovery.
Bringing together representatives from European institutions, EU Member States, industry, and civil society, the event will provide a platform for open dialogue on whether the EU ETS offers the right framework for Waste-to-Energy. The discussion will also explore which complementary policy approaches may be needed.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Mette Koefoed Quinn, European Commission, DG Climate Action –Deputy Director for Carbon Markets and Clean Mobility; Head of Unit ETS I, Policy Coordination and International Carbon Markets
- François Wakenhut, European Commission, DG Environment – Head of Unit, Circular economy & secondary raw materials
Further details will be communicated shortly.
