The 2024 edition will focus on sustainable biofuels, decarbonisation, the Net-Zero transition, incineration residues, end-of-life renewable energy units, the circular economy, hydrogen generation, Artificial Intelligence in the Waste-to-Energy field, among others. The Symposium is organised by IWWG–International Waste Working Group with the scientific support of the Universities of Hamburg (DE), Kyoto (JP), Padova (IT), Queensland (AU), Rostock (DE), Tongji (CN), Zhejiang (CN) and Sultan Qaboos University (OM).

The conference broadly covers all aspects of energy recovery from biomass and waste, including: feedstocks, conversion processes, energy outputs, policies, strategies & regulations, global climate change, economic aspects, decision tools, communication.
