Magaldi’s Ash Insight Unit tests recoverable materials
Industry data suggest that every ton of Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) can contain up to 10–15% recoverable metals. Despite this potential, many Waste-to-Energy operators hesitate to invest in full-scale IBA treatment due to the uncertainty about their own ash composition.
To remove this uncertainty, ESWET member Magaldi has developed a Mobile Test Facility that enables on-site, real-condition analysis of IBA. The unit brings key dry ash treatment technologies directly to the plant.
The Mobile Test Facility replicates critical equipment of a full-scale dry IBA treatment system. It evaluates non-ferrous metal recovery using eddy current separation, estimates ferrous metal content through magnetic separation, and analyses particle size distribution. These results define realistic recovery rates and support accurate system design and economic feasibility at a later stage.
